Busy with Work, Watching lots of BBC Programs, whatever…

Work…

Work is keeping me busy which is always good. This week and a few days last week has me focused on our intranet site. I’m updating the styles and features a bit to make things more accessible. I’m still someone constrained by the design giving to me by the parent company, when you’re not familiar with the language enough to have to look everything up. It still loads of fun in any case!

TV Shows…

I’ve been catching up on a few British TV shows. Using Netflix, I’ve been watching Prime Suspect. I’ve just finished the 3rd series and expect the next disc in the mail today. Also via Netflix (streaming) I’ve watched a couple of episodes of Ballykissangle. I’ve decided to finish that on DVD just to get a better viewing that streaming isn’t offering. However, streaming is just fine for two other little favorites I’d not see in quite a while. “The Good Life” (a.k.a “Good Neighbors”) from around 1975. This is about a man and wife who on his 40 birthday decides to leave the corporate world and become self sufficient.  I’ve also been watching “Yes, Minister” about a newly elected Minister in her majesty’s government. I think this one is from the early 1980’s.

Back…

My back has been bothering me for the last few weeks more than it has in quite a while. Sleeping isn’t all that great because whenever I try to turn over it hurts. Lying and sleeping on my back isn’t bad and is actually very comfortable, but when I need to roll over, the back complains. This is different pain than a couple of years ago. This time it is actually located in the back versus the nerves being pinched causing excruciating leg pain. During the last visit with the doctor (for weight loss), he offered to give me something for it and I declined at that time. I’ve not really taken anything for it other than an occasional Ibuprofen tablet. It gets better when I get up and walk around and stretch it some. I go back to the Dr. in a couple of weeks so we may take him up on a very mild muscle relaxer to see if that helps. I’d prefer to not have to take any drugs what-so-ever, but I may have to relent.

Diet Update…

Diet and exercise is still going… not much gym workout though due to my back. However I am trying to keep up with some walking and fat burn routines on the treadmill. In less than a week (next Monday) I’ll be having another body composition test and will go over the results about a week later with the Dr.  My own scale has shown number lower than they’ve been in years, but not quite as fast as I’d like. But if it keeps up, I may be down to my weight loss goal by the end of the year. I’m just hoping that I’m not losing much muscle mass since I’ve been skipping the gym. Soon I hope to go back and meet up with the trainer again. By the weigh (ha!), my scales went from 288 back in June of 2008, and are now hovering around 225. I hope to see below 220 by the time I get to the Dr in a couple of weeks, but any loss will be great. I’ve gone down from a 44 (fat man’s 44, which means lots of stretching in the waist) to a 38/40. I’m hoping to be in a 36/38 by the time I’m done. I’m also wearing more XL versus 2 XL in shirts, and hope to stay there or perhaps get into a Large.

More Amazon Ads on Site

You may have noticed the new add at the top of this page. I’ve decided to add a few more Amazon Ads to the site to maybe increase my income a bit. I’m making very little money through these ads, but every little bit helps. My health stats site is coming a long nicely, however I’m still playing around with the design. I’m using Dojo on this to add the necessary features, but also to learn dojo a bit more.

By the way, Windows 7 is due out on October 22. Its so much better than Vista and I’m hoping that it takes off. As others have said I think that most people won’t actually upgrade, but will wait and get it with new computers. If you’re interested in knowing more about it before getting your hands on it, you can get a great book by Paul Thurrott and Rafael Rivera called Window 7 Secrets. You should check it out. You can also check out Paul’s Amazon page.

  1. Chuck, if you get a chance check out the BBC series “The High Life”. I think Tam and I watched this one occaisionally while overseas. It’s the story of two male flight attendants, one gay, one straight, both with amazing Scottish accents. Ha! What would one name a scottish airline, anyway? Well, Aer Scotia, of course! Check it out if you’re interested. http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/thehighlife/
